The day before my internship started, I woke up every 15 minutes. Even though our day wasn’t starting until 9 a.m., I was up early showered and dressed ready to take off for my commute. My hopes and excitement were high but my nerves seemed to be getting the best of me. It was hard to believe that my hard work was paying off and my dream of working in public accounting was becoming reality. With all these mixed emotions, the entire first week was an adrenaline rush.
From the moment I walked through the front door, everyone was super friendly and supportive. Throughout the entire first week of orientation and training, I began to feel more comfortable and confident. Our first week of classroom training included introductions, icebreaker activities, hands-on assignments at our desks and other learning activities. In particular, I enjoyed learning about the various software, tax preparation and audit rules.
Here at Froehling Anderson not only do they work hard but they also enjoy the moments to the fullest. It was refreshing to play games in between our training sessions. These games helped us to get to know one another and refresh ourselves. Games such as the ‘step’ game, ‘minute to win it’, and others helped make the education fun and interactive. I personally enjoyed every bit of my first week here at Froehling and believe that it will help me become the best accountant that I can be. Unfortunately, I did not win the hula hoop contest but I tried.
My advice to any new intern would be to shake off the nerves and embrace the adrenaline rush. Enjoy the learning process and strive to be the best.
