Brandon Rosenthal

Brandon’s very first job in accounting was as a staff accountant for a private company. He quickly discovered that he has always enjoyed working with numbers and solving problems, and wanted to be someone that could help clients achieve their goals. He joined the Froehling Anderson team in 2006 where his primary focus was on audit and assurance services; in 2017 he became partner in our Business Advisory Consulting Department and has seen first-hand how pursuing this career path has led to great work-life balance, job stability, and career advancement.

Being a partner at Froehling Anderson, Brandon has seen the impact that strategic planning has had on business growth for his clients. He values being someone who plays a crucial role in business decision-making and considers his career incredibly rewarding. His strong leadership and management skills, along with communication, problem-solving, and being an advisor that is transparent and honest with his clients are just some of the skills he brings to his role. He is passionate about using those skills to help clients with the business decisions they have to make.

When he’s recharging away from the office, Brandon enjoys going on date nights with his wife, spending time with their two kids, and going to the movies and sporting events.

Joe Rubenstein

Accounting has intrigued Joe for as long as he can remember. As a child, he regularly overheard family members – several of whom are small business owners – speak highly of their accountants. When he found himself at the head of his college accounting class, he quickly realized it was the career for him. Drawn to the culture and proved to be a good fit, Joe joined the firm as a staff accountant in 2005. Since then, he has come to appreciate his profession even more, “Every day is a different story,” he says. “And it’s always something new and interesting.”

As a partner in the firm’s Tax Department, Joe prides himself on being, as he put it, “someone who people can lean on and trust.” Having spent his first seven years at Froehling Anderson as a “generalist”, his varied background allows him to assist clients with issues of all shapes and sizes. Outside of the office, Joe enjoys being there for his family for trips to the baseball field, beach and zoo. In the fall, he spends his Sundays watching football and rooting for his Fantasy Football team.

Gail Thompson

Gail pursued a career in accounting because of how naturally it came to her; excelling both in math and communication. Having started her career in the private industry and being a former Controller for an international company, she has over 25 years of experience in accounting. Her natural abilities and vast experience make her a trusted advisor among many, but her ability to relate to people and build meaningful relationships makes her a consultant and a friend to all. She is on your team from start to finish!

The challenging and complex situations that can arise brings Gail’s listening skills and passion to the forefront. She desires to see her clients succeed and counts it a privilege to not just be their accountant but a friend.

When she’s recharging away from the office, Gail is enjoying the cabin life; swimming, riding ATVs, and fishing.

Steven B. Wagner

Steve was initially introduced to accounting in the 80’s and discovered his enjoyment for tackling challenges while simultaneously using his problem-solving skills. The thrill of the challenge combined with learning about the policies inherent in income tax is what brought him to the accounting industry. His ability to explain complex problems in a simple way that his clients will understand is one of many skills he brings to his career. How he relates to his clients and prioritizes personal communication is what makes him an advisor you can trust.

With his 35+ years of experience in public accounting, Steve has been named a ‘Super CPA’ by both Minnesota Law & Politics and Twin Cities Business Monthly. He is regularly sought after to lead seminars on current and complex tax law for professional associations and private vendors throughout the country. He has been repeatedly named nationally by the AICPA as an outstanding discussion leader for his teaching continuing education classes for other CPA’s.  He has also been awarded the Glen Berryman Award by the Minnesota Society of CPAs for his outstanding continuing education presentations. He joined the Froehling Anderson team in 2009 and the passion he has for what he gets to do is vibrant and evident.

When he’s recharging away from the office, Steve enjoys playing music, golfing, and traveling.

Jodi Malmgren

Jodi’s background in the legal industry is what originally piqued her interest in tax controversy. A former Paralegal, her vast experience for helping clients navigate extremely stressful situations became something she enjoyed. Her ability to ease their worries and guide them through a difficult process comes naturally to her. Not only does she help her clients by creating efficient systems and processes to navigate the difficulties, but those same skills also extend internally as she utilizes her Lean Six Sigma certification to create efficiencies throughout the firm.

When she originally joined the Froehling Anderson team in 2005, Jodi was assisting with the scheduling of staff in the areas of audits, reviews, compilations, and tax returns. Her passions were and continue to be to see that everyone at the firm is in a position that aligns with their skills and strengths. As Froehling has grown, her position has too. She comes alongside the young professionals who are transitioning from college to a professional work environment. Her desire is to see them acclimate to this profession with comfortability and ease, all the while providing them the resources they need to be successful.

When she’s recharging away from the office, Jodi loves vacationing in Puerto Rico, and spending time at the cabin with her grandchildren and one very spoiled dog.

David B. Wasmuth

Growing up, Dave wanted to be a teacher. Although he ultimately found his calling as an accountant, his 40-year career has centered on guiding others — clients and colleagues — to success. He joined Froehling Anderson in 1979 and is a senior partner in the firm’s Business Consulting Department. He relies upon his past experience, which includes serving as managing partner from 1997 to 2004, to help clients navigate strategic business opportunities.

He is involved in the firm’s continuing education program and, through his involvement with Pecos River Learning Center, he has conducted several seminars throughout the U.S. and Europe. For Dave, the appeal of accounting mirrors that of teaching. “Accounting gives me the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others,” he says.

When he’s recharging away from the office, Dave makes a positive impact through his faith, family (wife and son) and nature photography.
